COS 1010 - Preclinic Nail Care Credits: 3 Hours/Week: Lecture 2Lab 2 Course Description: This course provides an introduction to nail care including manicuring, pedicuring, and artificial nail application. Also, the safe use of products will be covered. Students must be able to perform physical tasks to complete course requirements. MnTC Goals None
Prerequisite(s): Assessment score placement in RDNG 0950 or above, or completion of RDNG 0900 with a grade of C or higher. COS 1000 or concurrent enrollment. Corequisite(s): None Recommendation: None

- Diseases and disorders of the nail.
- Disinfection of manicure and pedicure equipment.
- Hazardous waste.
- Manicuring and pedicuring.
- Nail structure.
- Safety procedures for nail care.
Learning Outcomes At the end of this course students will be able to:
- explain nail structure and growth.
- recognize nail disease and disorders.
- demonstrate plain and hot-oil manicures.
- demonstrate pedicures.
- identify all types of artificial nails.
- perform artificial nail applications.
- perform all nail services using proper safety and sanitation procedures.
- demonstrate safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous waste.
