ECT 1030 - Linux Operating System

Course Description: This course introduces the student to the Linux operating system. Topics include basic/intermediate commands, file/directory structure and management, file/directory security, redirection, pipes, variables and aliases. In this class, students will study the necessary core Linux concepts and practical usage in order to work effectively in this operating system environment.

  3. Define the Linux operating system
  4. Editing files using vi
  5. Intermediate/Advanced commands and utilities
  6. Introduction to Shell concepts and scripting.

Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course students will be able to:

  1. execute and apply switches to basic commands.
  2. perform Linux system administration functions.
  3. execute basic Linux user commands.
  4. explain the Linux file system structure.
  5. utilize command line utilities.
  6. perform file editing using the vi editor.
