TRIN 2037 - Interpreting in Legal Settings

Course Description: This course introduces students to interpreting in the legal setting and offers an overview of the requirements for court certification. Coursework covers the Minnesota state courts and different types of cases tried in courts. The course also introduces students to legal vocabulary and legal settings outside the courtroom.

Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course students will be able to:

  1. develop a legal glossary.
  2. describe different types of courts.
  3. analyze situations that involve the Code of Ethics.
  4. demonstrate knowledge of the requirements for state and federal court certification.
  5. describe specialized divisions in district courts.
  6. apply vocabulary associated with different legal settings in interpreted encounters.
