This degree is designed to prepare the student for entry level positions ranging from management of accounts payable and accounts receivable to a position that requires the professional skills to be a full charge accountant. The second year of the program will emphasize research of financial and managerial accounting topics, the development of professional contracts and writing professional reports. The graduate will find employment opportunities in profit and non-profit entities.

MnTC/General Education Requirements
Goal 2: Critical Thinking
Fulfilled when all MnTC goals for this degree are complete.
Goal 3 and/or 4: Natural Sciences/Math/Logical Reasoning
Minimum of 3 credits; one course from either Goal 3 and/or Goal 4.
NOTE: Goal 3 courses do not have to be lab courses. Goal 4 courses must be numbered between MATH 1025 and MATH 1082 , or PHIL 1041

Credit for ECON 1021 will be counted only once in the overall credit total. If ECON 1021 is selected, it will fulfill Career/Occupational and MnTC Goal 5 requirements. However, it will be necessary to complete three additional college-level credits to meet the overall total credit requirement. See your advisor or counselor for assistance in selecting courses.

Program Learning Outcomes
At the end of this program students will be able to:
- Demonstrate the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for an entry-level position as an accounting clerk, technician, bookkeeper, or an entry-level accountant.
- Describe the professional ethics in the accounting field.
- Demonstrate the ability to think critically to identify and solve accounting problems.
- Understand the accountant/client relationship.
- Communicate effectively and work in teams as is appropriate in the accounting field.
- Identify, interpret, and apply tax law to income tax preparations.
