Program Description

This program provides students a broad base of general education coursework relevant to the field of health sciences, in preparation to transfer to a broad array of health sciences majors at a college or university. This degree program is designed to fulfill health science baccalaureate requirements at all MN State system universities offering related degrees.

Prospective students should be aware that a MN Human Services background study, and a national FBI database with fingerprint background study, with no restrictions may be required for future careers in healthcare.

The Health Sciences Broad Field Associate in Science Degree program is designed to transfer to all system universities offering related baccalaureate programs through a statewide articulation agreement. The Health Sciences Broad Field Statewide Articulation Agreement has been approved by all system universities. Consult with both college and university advisors/counselors for guidance regarding the requirements of the various health sciences baccalaureate programs to facilitate the most efficient transition.

Program Learning Outcomes

At the end of this program students will be able to:

  • Students will examine biology, human anatomy, physiology, and the role microorganisms play in our environment.
  • Students will demonstrate effective written, verbal, and nonverbal communication skills.
  • Students will develop capacity to identify, discuss, and reflect upon a wide range of psychological, social, and ethical issues that pertain to health sciences.
  • Students will increase knowledge about mathematical and logical modes of thinking.
  • Students will improve their understanding of the role of health and nutrition in the health sciences.
  • Students will prepare to transfer to a baccalaureate program.
