The Associate in Science in Education provides students with a core of education coursework and field experiences with diverse populations for those seeking a career in community schools. Students will learn culturally relevant approaches for teaching and learning. This degree fulfills the education requirements for paraprofessionals as “highly qualified” under federal law (Title I schools) and includes Minnesota Standards of Effective Practice for Teachers for those intending to transfer into a four-year teacher licensure program. Students seeking a degree in Elementary Education should declare the Elementary Education Foundation Transfer Pathway AS degree. Check specific transfer arrangements with the university and a Century College counselor or advisor early and often to ensure an appropriate program is planned for enrollment at Century and at the university.
