Program Description

This program prepares the student to perform automotive repairs in the following areas: engine repair and diagnosis, cooling system, emission control, computer systems, fuel injection, engine performance maintenance, air conditioning and automatic transmission/transaxle. This person will also be prepared to take the ASE certification tests in the following areas: engine repair, engine performance, heating and air conditioning and automatic transmission/transaxle.

Program Prerequisites

Course placement into ENGL 0950  and RDNG 0950  or above OR completion of RDNG 0940  with a grade of C or higher OR course placement into ESOL 0051  and ESOL 0052  and ESOL 1033  OR completion of ESOL 0041  with a grade of C or higher and ESOL 0042  with a grade of C or higher and ESOL 0043  with a grade of C or higher.

Due to the high demand for this program, the college cannot guarantee that students will start their career/occupational coursework in their early semesters. Remedial courses, if needed based on assessment test scores, are usually available. AST program courses start FALL semester only, full-time, day schedule required.

  • Demonstrate critical thinking and diagnostic skills.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of safety issues, including hazardous materials and environmental issues, in the workplace.
