RADT 2784 - Clinical Radiography IV

Credits: 8
Hours/Week: Lecture None Lab None
Course Description: Students continue their clinical experiences and have an opportunity to rotate to another clinical facility. Students will perform radiographic procedures with limited supervision, emphasizing proficiency in trauma, bedside, and specialized radiographic procedures. Students will select an optional rotation from among various special imaging modalities.  Students will assist with and perform radiographic procedures under the direction of a qualified practitioner at affiliated clinical sites.  State regulations regarding safe operation of radiation-generating equipment will be followed and proper radiation safety practices will be adhered to.  Students must be able to perform physical tasks to complete course requirements. This course requires students to be concurrently enrolled in RADT 2010 , RADT 2090  and RADT 2100 .

Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course students will be able to:

  1. perform radiographic positioning procedures by applying theoretical content covered in RADT 1020 - Fundamentals of Radiography , RADT 1031 - Anatomy and Positioning I , RADT 1032 - Anatomy and Positioning II , RADT 1040 - Radiographic Exposure Factors , RADT 2000 - Radiation Biology and Protection , and RADT 2010 - Imaging Pathology  with minimal technologist assistance.
  2. adapt radiographic procedures to patient condition with technologist’s supervision.
  3. perform fluoroscopic competencies by applying the theoretical content discussed in RADT 1020 - Fundamentals of Radiography , RADT 1031 - Anatomy and Positioning I , RADT 1032 - Anatomy and Positioning II , RADT 1040 - Radiographic Exposure Factors , and RADT 2000 - Radiation Biology and Protection  as well as fluoroscopic content addressed in RADT 2030 - Radiation Physics and Quality Control  
  4. perform routine OR procedures, including operation of the C-arm with indirect supervision.
  5. perform portable radiography competencies by applying the theoretical components of RADT 1031 - Anatomy and Positioning I  as well as the principles of radiation exposure and safety discussed in RADT 1040 - Radiographic Exposure Factors  and RADT 2000 - Radiation Biology and Protection .
  6. perform routine portable examinations with minimal technologist assistance by applying the theoretical components of RADT 1020 - Fundamentals of Radiography , RADT 1031 - Anatomy and Positioning I , RADT 1032 - Anatomy and Positioning II , RADT 1040 - Radiographic Exposure Factors , and RADT 2000 - Radiation Biology and Protection .
  7. perform routine radiographic / fluoroscopic procedures with increased confidence, efficiency, and accuracy by applying the theoretical components of RADT 1031 - Anatomy and Positioning I  and RADT 1032 - Anatomy and Positioning II , RADT 1040 - Radiographic Exposure Factors , RADT 2000 - Radiation Biology and Protection , and RADT 2030 - Radiation Physics and Quality Control .
  8. apply basic radiation safety practices when performing all radiographic procedures using the ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) principle as discussed in the theoretical content of RADT 1040 - Radiographic Exposure Factors  and RADT 2000 - Radiation Biology and Protection  to protect patients, hospital personnel and self.
  9. demonstrate confidence when selecting appropriate exposure factors by applying the theoretical content of RADT 1040 - Radiographic Exposure Factors , RADT 2000 - Radiation Biology and Protection , and RADT 2010 - Imaging Pathology .
  10. discuss the relevant theoretical content of RADT 1031 - Anatomy and Positioning I , RADT 1032 - Anatomy and Positioning II , RADT 1040 - Radiographic Exposure Factors , RADT 2000 - Radiation Biology and Protection , and RADT 2010 - Imaging Pathology  during Image Analysis sessions with Clinical Coordinator.
  11. observe and assist in a Computed Tomography rotation as well as special imaging modality rotations of choice by applying the theoretical content of RADT 1031 - Anatomy and Positioning I , RADT 1032 - Anatomy and Positioning II , RADT 2020 - Introduction to Sectional Anatomy , RADT 2010 - Imaging Pathology , and RADT 2100 - Introduction to Computed Tomography .
  12. perform multiple/trauma radiographic examinations with technologist’s assistance.
  13. perform radiographic procedures in which competency has been achieved with minimal assistance and repeat exposures by applying the relevant theoretical components of RADT 1020 - Fundamentals of Radiography , RADT 1031 - Anatomy and Positioning I , RADT 1032 - Anatomy and Positioning II ,RADT 1040 - Radiographic Exposure Factors , and RADT 2000 - Radiation Biology and Protection .
  14. perform skull radiographic procedures in which competency has been achieved with minimal assistance and repeat exposures by applying the relevant theoretical components of RADT 1020 - Fundamentals of Radiography , RADT 1032 - Anatomy and Positioning II , RADT 1040 - Radiographic Exposure Factors , and RADT 2000 - Radiation Biology and Protection .
  15. prepare room and perform minor special procedures ie. myelogram, arthrogram, and hysterosalpingram with technologist assistance as discussed in RADT 1020 - Fundamentals of Radiography , and RADT 1032 - Anatomy and Positioning II .
