ART 1025 - Foundation 3D Design

Credits: 3
Hours/Week: Lecture 1 Lab 4
Course Description: This course is a foundation-level study of the principles and elements of 3D design. This course provides opportunities to explore the concepts of 3D composition through guided projects and demonstrations. Topics include an introduction to a variety of media and art techniques, creative methods for problem solving in three-dimensions and a general overview of historical and cultural design issues. Open studio hours are available for outside class work if needed.

Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course students will be able to:

  1. apply the basic 3D design/aesthetic vocabulary to works of art.
  2. analyze a 3D work of art using the basic principles of three-dimensional design.
  3. analyze historic and contemporary trends in 3D artworks.
  4. explain the vital role and value the fine arts and humanities have on the development of culture.
  5. critique the effectiveness of 3D design principles as applied in personal works and works of others.
  6. apply health and safety practices within the discipline.
  7. develop basic working process, using computer-aided design programs, and fabrication methods.
  8. create 3D projects using the principles and elements of 3D design.
