OFFT 2030 - Medical Office: Insurance and Billing Credits: 3 Hours/Week: Lecture None Lab None Course Description: This course introduces the student to insurance and billing procedures for the medical office. Topics include insurance requirements related to Medicare/Medicaid, managed care and other insurance policies, hospital/clinic billing procedures, auditing/compliance, and collection procedures. Prerequisite(s): OFFT 2006 and OFFT 2010 Corequisite(s): None Recommendation: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and calculate simple percentages with the use of a calculator.

- recognize procedural codes.
- apply policies and procedures for the use of clinical data required in reimbursement and prospective payment systems (PPS) in healthcare delivery.

- support accurate billing through coding, chargemaster, claims management, and bill reconciliation processes.
- use established guidelines to comply with reimbursement and reporting requirements such as the National Correct Coding Initiative.
