WLDG 1013 - Gas Metal Arc Welding 1

Hours/Week: Lecture 1 Lab 6
Course Description: This course focuses on personal safety rules, shop equipment procedures, and the development of welding skills in the Short-Circuit, Spray Arc, and Pulse Arc processes on various metals thicknesses and positions. Students must be able to perform physical tasks to complete course requirements.

  1. Personal safety procedures
  2. Shop and equipment safety rules and procedures
  3. Set-up, take down, and troubleshooting procedures on GMAW equipment in short-circuit, spray and pules spray mode
  4. Metal preparation for welding
  5. Welding sheet metal with short-circuit and pulse spray arc transfer modes in flat and out of position welding
  6. Welding plate metal with short-circuit, spray and pulse spray transfer mode in flat and out of position welding
  7. Inspecting welds for defects

Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  10. demonstrate operating procedures of GMAW equipment.
  11. perform stringer beads with GMAW equipment.
  12. describe GMAW transfer modes.
  13. perform weave beads with MIG equipment.
  14. perform butt, lap, corner, and tee welds on sheet metal in flat and out of position with short-circuit, spray and pules spray transfer modes when using GMAW equipment.
  15. perform butt, lap, corner, and tee welds on plate metal in flat and out of position with short-circuit, spray and pules spray transfer modes when using GMAW equipment.
  16. demonstrate proper set-up, take down, and troubleshooting procedures when using short-circuit, pulse and spray arc transfer modes on GMAW equipment.
  17. identify weld symbols for Groove and Fillet welds.
