PSAF 1032 - Principles of Public Safety Leadership Credits: 3 Hours/Week: Lecture None Lab None Course Description: This course will examine decision-making models, team development techniques, and leadership skills necessary to contribute to the success of a public safety organization. This course will also assess how organizational behavior, laws, and culture influence the delivery of public safety. MnTC Goals None
Prerequisite(s): PSAF 1031 or instructor consent. Corequisite(s): None Recommendation: Computer literacy and word processing skills.

Learning Outcomes At the end of this course students will be able to:
- Compare and contrast decision making models.
- Develop a list of potential public safety research questions.
- Analyze legal implications and ramifications of decision-making.
- Discuss legal authority and limitations of the sub-disciplines of public safety.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of research and writing as applied to public safety.
- Compare and contrast public and private operating issues of Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
- Differentiate between procedures, rules, and law as they apply to public safety
- Assess the need for cultural awareness in public safety operations.
- Construct team strategies to improve mission success in an all-hazard environment.
- Design communication and integration strategies between sub-disciplines within public safety.
- Discuss principles of organizational behavior.
