CJS 2085 - Juvenile Justice and Delinquency

Course Description: This course is an introductory survey of the juvenile justice system with specific coverage of terminology, laws, and procedures unique to the juvenile in the system. This course also covers theories of delinquency, delinquent acts, corrective actions, custody, and disposition.

Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course, students will be able to:

1. explain the history and evolution of the juvenile justice system and its legal and procedural frameworks.

2. describe key operational terms and concepts of the juvenile justice courts and juvenile justice process.

3. describe the differences among types of crimes and how some young people are both more at risk and disproportionately involved in the juvenile justice system.

4. describe actions that are required when processing juveniles.
