EMS 2004 - International Trauma Life Support Provider Credits: 1 Hours/Week: Lecture 0.5 Lab 0.5 Course Description: The ITLS Provider course covers the skills necessary for rapid assessment, resuscitation, stabilization, and transportation of trauma patients. This course emphasizes patient assessment and management evaluation steps and includes sequencing and techniques for resuscitation and packaging a patient. Hands-on stations include: basic and advanced airway, chest decompression and fluid resuscitation, spinal motion restriction-rapid extrication, helmet management, log roll and long back board, and traction splints. 1. describe the role of scene size-up in provider safety and anticipation of patient injuries.
2. outline the steps of the ITLS Trauma Assessment.
3. list the 10 critical interventions made during the primary survey and when to make them.
4. perform correctly the ITLS Primary Survey, the ITLS Reassessment Exam and the ITLS Secondary Survey
5. explain and compare the pathophysiology of hemorrhagic, mechanical (obstructive), cardiogenic, and distributive shock.
6. discuss the use of tourniquets and hemostatic agents for uncontrolled extremity hemorrhage.
