HVAC 2020 - Psychrometrics and Load Calculating Credits: 2 Hours/Week: Lecture 2 Lab 0 Course Description: This course presents the psychrometric chart and the ACCA Manual J as some of the tools used by HVAC Technicians to determine residential heating and cooling load calculations. Topics include properties of air, air measurements, heat transfer, heat gain and heat loss calculations. These measurements and calculations are used to properly size HVAC equipment. MnTC Goals None

Learning Outcomes At the end of this course students will be able to:
- define psychrometrics.
- define the terms: Btu, dry-bulb and wet-bulb temperatures, relative humidity, enthalpy, and dew point temperatures.
- determine air conditions using a psychrometric chart.
- calculate heat gain and heat loss.
- determine heat transfer multipliers.
- analyze various air distribution systems.
- perform a load calculation using a Manual J.
- size HVAC equipment based on load calculations.
