INTD 2002 - Residential Studio II

Hours/Week: Lecture 2 Lab 2
Course Description: This course builds upon Residential Studio I INTD 2001  ). The focus of this course is on the research and schematic design phases of the interior design process. Course topics include the study of residential spaces, including identification of client needs, research, building codes, space planning, drawings, product selections, and presentations. Students are required to have a laptop powerful enough to support the demanding video and computational requirements necessary for coursework, as well as adequate storage to accommodate new and future software releases.

Recommendation:  Concurrently enrolled INTD 2040 .

Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course students will be able to:

  1. conduct building code research. 
  2. evaluate sources for relevance and reliability.
  3. identify the authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) for a project.
  4. source information from the International Code Council (ICC) digital code library.
  5. design a space that complies with applicable codes.
  6. write a design concept statement.
  7. produce schematic design drawings.
  8. select interior products that meet the needs of the user.
  9. design digital presentations.
  10. source high-quality imagery for digital presentations.
  11. use a scanner to obtain high quality images of hand drawn work.
  12. justify design decisions with clear reasoning and evidence.
  13. assess feedback from critiques to make project improvements.
  14. critique peer projects effectively.
