EMSC 2900 - Role of the Community Paramedic Credits: 2 Hours/Week: Lecture 2Lab None Course Description: This course explores the role of the Community Paramedic and how it is integrated into the primary care and public health systems. Students will explore the roles of other healthcare providers who are part of the healthcare home team. MnTC Goals None
Prerequisite(s): Current State Paramedic certification with 2 years full-time experience or equivalent. Corequisite(s): EMSP 2910; EMSP 2920; EMSP 2930. Recommendation: Basic word processing skills. Basic internet based data entry. Online course navigation.

Learning Outcomes At the end of this course students will be able to:
- apply the appropriate risk mitigation strategies for an individual based on the social determinants of health as presented in a case study.
- critique the Community Paramedic role in public health and primary care from both the financial and health perspectives.
- define key points in the different relationships they will have with members of the healthcare team, including both healthcare and social services.
- define patient advocacy and liaison work.
- describe chronic disease management utilized by public health agencies.
- describe health promotion activities associated with their roles in overall community based public health efforts.
