GNDR 1061 - Foundations of Women’s and Gender Studies Credits: 3 Hours/Week: Lecture 3Lab None Course Description: Foundations of Women’s and Gender Studies is an interdisciplinary course in which we examine the diversity of women’s experiences throughout history and across cultures, races, ethnic groups and religions. The course introduces the theories and methodologies of the field of Gender Studies with a focus on factors such as gender, sexuality, sexual orientation, age, and life course. This course is required for the Gender Studies Certificate. MnTC Goals 5 History/Social/Behavioral Science, 9 Ethical/Civic Responsibility
Prerequisite(s): Assessment score placement in ENGL 1021 or completion of ENGL 0090 with a grade of C or higher. Assessment score placement in RDNG 1000 , or completion of RDNG 0900 or RDNG 0950 with a grade of C or higher. Corequisite(s): None Recommendation: None

Learning Outcomes At the end of this course students will be able to:
- identify core issues of the interdisciplinary field of Womens Studies.
- analyze social and cultural assumptions about gender.
- articulate the influence of specific multicultural issues on our society.
- evaluate how feminist scholarship changes traditional interpretations in multiple and interdisciplinary fields.
