INTD 2050 - Commercial Design Studio Credits: 3 Hours/Week: Lecture NoneLab None Course Description: This course concentrates on designing a commercial space that meets programming requirements, commercial building codes, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Design Guidelines. It entails creating a full set of working drawings as well as sourcing furniture and finishes to meet commercial expectations. MnTC Goals None
Prerequisite(s): INTD 2001 with a grade of C or higher. Corequisite(s): None Recommendation: ECAD 1070 .

Learning Outcomes At the end of this course students will be able to:
- evaluate current ethical and legal issues of commercial interior design.
- plan a commercial space to adhere to the International Building Code (IBC) and the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines.
- develop schematic designs and design development.
- draft design development documents: space plan, materials plan, furniture plan, lighting and electrical plan, reflected ceiling plans, elevations, and details.
- source furniture, fixtures, and equipment to meet the IBC.
- specify furniture and finishes safe for all occupants that will comply with fire codes.
- write specifications for contractors.
- analyze building codes.
- interpret a program to design a commercial space.
