INTD 2090 - Residential Design for Aging in Place Credits: 3 Hours/Week: Lecture 2Lab 2 Course Description: As the first wave of baby boomers enters retirement, thoughtful residential design for Aging in Place grows dramatically. This course is designed as an introduction to the principles and practices of designing homes for Aging in Place that help clients remain in their homes as they grow older and their needs and abilities change. Learning Outcomes At the end of this course students will be able to:
- demonstrate knowledge in assessing the elder population, including the need for short-term and long-term care adaptations.
- design a residential space applying knowledge of laws, codes, and standards as they relate to the built environment.
- demonstrate knowledge of working with aging specialists, such as elder-law attorneys and physical and occupational therapists.
- evaluate exterior and whole-house accessibility.
