DENH 1060 - Pharmacology for the Dental Hygienist Credits: 2 Hours/Week: Lecture 2 Lab None Course Description: This course provides an introduction to drug actions, mechanisms of drugs, and bodily reactions. Learning Outcomes At the end of this course students will be able to:
- discuss the physiologic, psychologic, and social consequences of drug abuse.
- describe the physiology of the organ system effected.
- explain the therapeutic and non-therapeutic action of the drugs on each organ system.
- list oral manifestations of drug therapy.
- recognize oral and systemic symptoms of drug interactions.
- identify those drugs which are both safe and unsafe for use during pregnancy.
- identify indications and contraindication to the use of drugs in the treatment of dental disease.
