Program Description
The Sociology Transfer Pathway AA degree offers students a powerful option: the opportunity to complete an Associate of Arts degree with course credits that directly transfer to designated Sociology bachelor’s degree programs at Minnesota State universities. The curriculum has been specifically designed so that students completing this pathway degree and transferring to one of the seven Minnesota State universities enter the university with junior-year status. All courses in the Transfer Pathway associate degree will directly transfer and apply to the designated bachelor’s degree programs in a related field.
Minnesota State universities include: Bemidji State University; Metropolitan State University; Minnesota State University, Mankato; Minnesota State University Moorhead; Southwest Minnesota State University; St. Cloud State University; and Winona State University.

MnTC/General Education Requirements
Goal 2: Critical Thinking
Fulfilled when all MnTC goals for this degree are complete.
Goal 3: Natural Sciences
Minimum of 7 credits. Two courses from two different disciplines with at least one traditional lab course.
Goal 5: History/Social/Behavioral Sciences
Minimum of 15 credits; from three different disciplines.
Goal 6: Humanities/Fine Arts
Minimum of 9 credits. Three courses, at least ONE of which must be a literature course, from three different disciplines.
Goals 7-10: Theme Goals
Three credits in each of four Goal areas selected from Goals 7, 8, 9 and 10 are required. Many courses from Goals 1-6 also meet Goals 7-10. One course may fulfill a maximum of two Goals. Credits count only once.

At the end of this program students will be able to:
- Describe key concepts and overarching themes in the field of sociology
- Analyze the role of organizations and institutions in social interactions and processes
- Apply sociological concepts to real and hypothetical scenarios
- Describe how sociologists engage in scientific inquiry to answer empirical research questions
- Analyze the role of social inequality and stratification in social interactions and processes
- Analyze how sociological principles apply to diverse populations
- Communicate knowledge of sociological principles through various methods, such as verbally, in writing, or through formal presentations.
