Program Description

This program establishes the foundational knowledge and skills required for careers in prosthetics, orthotics, and pedorthics (POP). Areas of study include introductory clinical care, anatomy & physiology related to amputation and mobility impairment, medical terminology, biomechanics, technical skill development, POP design and fabrication, material science, laboratory management, and safety practices. Students completing the AAS may pursue employment as an entry level prosthetic/orthotic technician, an orthotic fitter, or continue their education into the Orthotic Prosthetic Clinical Applications (OPCA) Advanced Certificate, a Bachelor or Master of Science in Orthotics and Prosthetics (BSOP/MSOP) through our partnership with Concordia University, St. Paul.  

The Prosthetic Orthotic Pedorthic Allied Healthcare AAS coupled with the OPCA Advanced Certificate will meet the educational requirements to be employed as an Orthotic/Prosthetic Assistant and as a Pedorthist. Tuition differential is applied to this program.

Program Prerequisites

Course placement into ENGL 0950  and RDNG 0950  or above OR completion of RDNG 0940  with a grade of C or higher OR course placement into ESOL 0051  and ESOL 0052  and ESOL 1033  OR completion of ESOL 0041  with a grade of C or higher and ESOL 0042  with a grade of C or higher and ESOL 0043  with a grade of C or higher.
