Program Description

This degree starts the student on the path to becoming an information systems professional. Coursework is designed to develop the student’s analytical and problem-solving skills, in conjunction with gaining broad-based, hands-on programming experience and proficiency. The program has been designed to equip students to transfer into a typical baccalaureate Information Systems degree program.

Program Prerequisites

Course placement into MATH 1061  or completion of MATH 0070 with a grade of C or higher. Course placement into college-level English and Reading OR completion of ENGL 0950  with a grade of C or higher OR completion of RDNG 0940  with a grade of C or higher and qualifying English Placement Exam OR completion of RDNG 0950  with a grade of C or higher and ENGL 0090  with a grade of C or higher OR completion of ESOL 0051  with a grade of C or higher and ESOL 0052  with a grade of C or higher.

Program Note

  1. A grade of C or higher in all career/occupational courses is required.
  2. A grade of C or higher in specific general education courses is required.
  3. For students with little or no prior programming experience,  or  is recommended.
  4. Courses will be counted only once in the overall total. When a Mathematics course is selected to fulfill the Career/Occupational Elective Requirement and also fulfills Goal 4, it may be necessary to complete additional
  5. credits to meet the 60 credit total.

This degree program is designed for both employment preparation and transfer. Some of the courses may not transfer to a number of four-year colleges. If you are considering the possibility of transfer, you may wish to talk with your advisor, counselor, or program instructor before registering to discuss your goals, look at programs designed for transfer, and develop a plan.
This degree transfers into the Computer Science Bachelors degree at Metropolitan State University through an articulation agreement. See your advisor or counselor if planning to pursue a computer-related bachelors degree.

Program Learning Outcomes

At the end of this program students will be able to:

  • Perform computer information systems analysis activities to include troubleshooting, systems monitoring, and computer information systems analysis activities.
  • The ability to function and communicate effectively as ethically and socially responsible computer information systems professionals.
  • Design, write, test, and debug computer programs written in contemporary structured and object-oriented languages.
  • Ability to develop algorithms which underlie common programming tasks.
  • Prepared to transfer into a typical four-year Computer Information Systems degree program.
  • Correctly implement given specifications when writing programs.
