Program Description
The Paraeducation Certificate combines coursework in the foundations of the field of education and teaching strategies, preparing individuals to provide direct services and support to children in educational settings. The certificate aligns with Century’s Education AS degree.

Special Instructions
Structured, education-related field experiences are important components of quality education programs. Students in the Paraeducation Certificate Program are required to complete a minimum of 50 hours of approved field experience. A MN Human Services Background Study may be required for some education field experiences, however, the background study is not mandatory to start or complete the programs. Transportation is not provided.

Students completing the Paraeducation Certificate are required to complete a minimum of 30 hours of approved practicums or field experiences. A MN Human Services Background Check may be required.

If you are considering the possibility of transfer, you may wish to talk with your advisor, counselor, or program instructor before registering to discuss your goals, look at programs designed for transfer, and develop a plan.
Program Learning Outcomes
At the end of this program students will be able to:
- Demonstrate academic knowledge and practical skill in teaching students in grades K-12 in various areas of need in community schools.
- Communicate effectively with students and staff and collaborate with mentoring teachers who supervise the volunteering experience.
- Demonstrate the ability to apply professional knowledge and classroom experience to new situations.
- Identify and interpret ethical and social issues associated with the education field.
