Program Description
As technology advances, our culture continues to generate more and more data. This phenomenon has been called “Big Data” and analysts are needed to convert Big Data into usable information that helps people make decisions. People trained in Big Data analytics are able to do this important work. Students completing the Applied Big Data Analytics AAS curriculum will develop highly marketable skills and knowledge that prepare them to enter today’s Big Data industry in the public and private sector such as retail, manufacturing, and government. In particular, graduates can perform searches and create reports based on business analytics, internal operations, or security operations from given datasets; they can install, configure, operate, and maintain Hadoop; they can use Splunk to generate security alerts, interactive dashboards, visualizations, and other business intelligence; and they can address security and privacy issues.
Program Prerequisites
Course placement into MATH 0070 or above, or completion of MATH 0030 or MATH 0060 with a grade of C or higher, course placement into college-level English and Reading OR completion of ENGL 0950 with a grade of C or higher OR completion of RDNG 0940 with a grade of C or higher and qualifying English Placement Exam OR completion of RDNG 0950 with a grade of C or higher and ENGL 0090 with a grade of C or higher OR completion of ESOL 0051 with a grade of C or higher and ESOL 0052 with a grade of C or higher and successful completion of ECT 1001 with a grade of C or higher or proof of current A+ certification or demonstrated, relevant work experience or instructor consent.
