Introduction to Century College

Century College was formed in 1996 with the consolidation of Lakewood Community College and Northeast Metro Technical College. Century College is one of the largest and most comprehensive community and technical colleges in Minnesota, offering liberal arts and career and technical education programs in more than 60 areas of study. Century is located in White Bear Lake, Minnesota on a 170 acre campus.

Century College develops and maintains educational programs, student support services, and activities appropriate to the needs of the communities served. The college provides programs that parallel the first two years of a baccalaureate education, prepares students for vocational and professional degrees, and provides valuable lifelong learning opportunities. Through its academic transfer and technical and career programs, Century College has developed a reputation for its academic standard and outstanding career programs.

Century College is a member of the Minnesota State system, with 30 two-year colleges, 7 four-year universities, and 54 campuses. All 37 colleges and universities offer all or part of the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum, a 40-credit package of general education courses accepted for transfer to other Minnesota State colleges and universities, the University of Minnesota, and many private colleges and universities.

Accreditation

Century College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, a commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. This facilitates the transfer of credit to Minnesota universities and colleges as well as to institutions throughout the United States. The college participates in the Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP), one of the Commission’s pathways for maintaining accreditation while focusing on continuous quality improvement.
