COS 1007 - Preclinic Hair Styling and Design

Course Description: This course provides elementary hair service skills including trichology, shampooing, conditioning, thermal and wet hairstyling on all types and lengths of hair, wigs, and extensions. Students must be able to perform physical tasks to complete course requirements.

Prerequisite(s): Assessment score placement in RDNG 0950  or above, or completion of RDNG 0900  with a grade of C or higher. COS 1000  or concurrent enrollment.

Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course students will be able to:

  5. list types of shampoos and conditioners and their effects on hair.
  6. demonstrate all phases of hair styling for long and short hair.
  7. demonstrate finishing techniques for wigs, extensions, or enhancements.
  8. practice safety precautions for student and client.
  9. demonstrate safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous waste.
