DENH 2065 - Dental Hygiene Practice IV Credits: 5 Hours/Week: Lecture None Lab 15 Course Description: This is the fourth and final clinical dental hygiene course in which students will refine their skills in delivering patient care services and prepare to enter the dental hygiene workforce. Students must be able to perform physical tasks to complete course requirements. MnTC Goals None
Prerequisite(s): successful completion of DENH 2010 , DENH 2015 , DENH 2020 , DENH 2030 and concurrent enrollment in DENH 2060 . Corequisite(s): None Recommendation: None
Major Content
- Students will deliver dental hygiene care to patients from the community in the Century College dental clinic.
- All students will be assigned 24 hours per semester at an off-campus clinical site which may include:
- Union Gospel Mission
- Community Dental Care
Learning Outcomes At the end of this course students will be able to:
- deliver care at a pace that is more congruent with that required post-graduation.
- demonstrate the ability to perform nonsurgical periodontal therapies.
- demonstrate competency in planning treatment and delivery of care.
- demonstrate competency in selected patient care procedures.
- demonstrate professional interaction with instructors, classmates, and patients.
- demonstrate safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous waste.
