VCT 1023 - Web Design with HTML5 and CSS3

Course Description: In this hands-on, project-oriented course, students will explore the many new and exciting options now available with HTML5 and CSS3. Students will design and create multiple page Web sites with text, graphics, multimedia elements, and interactivity. This course covers the use of HTML5 (Hypertext Markup Language version 5), CSS3 (Cascading Style Sheets version 3), the optimization of graphics, and the application of multimedia elements to produce efficient, interactive Web sites. Students will create Web sites to communicate a clients message through the application of the principles and elements of design.

Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course students will be able to:

  1. construct links and anchors in an HTML5 document.
  2. use Absolute and Relative URLs.
  3. develop multiple page Web sites using HTML5.
  4. solve design and technical problems through the use of critical thinking.
  5. optimize graphic images for Web-page delivery.
  6. use CSS3 (Cascading Style Sheets version 3) to implement design solutions and functionality.
  7. discuss the important role Web browsers play in the HTML5 development process.
  8. employ a creative information design process.
  9. use basic JavaScript to create more interactive Web pages.
