CVF 1083 - System Security and Network Auditing Credits: 3 Hours/Week: Lecture 2 Lab 2 Course Description: This course provides a technical focus on the numerous security controls and settings available on a Windows operating system, particularly in terms of compliance management and auditing. The material provides updated information on current Windows 2000, XP and .NET security issues. Additional topics include a variety of Microsoft utilities available to secure the Microsoft Windows OS, including HFNETCHK, MBSA, URLSCAN, and IIS Lockdown. MnTC Goals None

Learning Outcomes At the end of this course students will be able to:
- implement computer security policies in a network environment
- explain user rights and the need for documented permission

- implement security policies from templates and other security tools from Windows
- configure Windows software management applications such as SUS, SMS, and Windows Update to ensure security compliance across the network
- explain the basic windows infrastructure
- interpret firewall and IIS log files
- utilize Windows scripting, auditing, and scheduling tools
