Program Description
This degree is designed to provide an interdisciplinary approach for individuals already working in the field and those interested in pursuing career opportunities in public safety, which includes emergency medical services (EMS), firefighting, emergency management, dispatching/communications, leadership/management, and public safety education. The student will interact with others in their discipline as well as those with similar missions to understand how these components function as a whole in an “all-hazards” approach to public safety.
Program Prerequisites
Course placement into ENGL 0950 and RDNG 0950 or above OR completion of RDNG 0940 with a grade of C or higher OR course placement into ESOL 0051 and ESOL 0052 and ESOL 1033 OR completion of ESOL 0041 with a grade of C or higher and ESOL 0042 with a grade of C or higher and ESOL 0043 with a grade of C or higher.

Career/Occupational Requirements
FRTA 1091 and FRTA 1092 require fire gear to use in training. You must have full NFPA compliant turnout, NFPA compliant SCBA, SCBA Fit Test and current respirator medical evaluation. Local Fire Chiefs may have the authority to supplement compliant turnout. If you are not affiliated with a fire department and need turnout gear, please contact Steve Shapira @ steve.shapira@century.edu for gear leasing options and information regarding cost.

Program Learning Outcomes
At the end of this program students will be able to:
- Analyze lifelong ethical and professional responsibilities of public safety personnel.
- Demonstrate effective decision making, critical thinking, and communication skills in written and verbal form.
- Examine the interactions between public safety agencies.
- Understand hiring practices, training evolutions, subcultures, attitudes and orientation of public safety agencies.
