Program Description

This program is designed for students interested in employment in the medical office field. Program graduates completing the Administrative Track may be employed in healthcare facilities, the insurance industry, or the medical device industry. Program graduates completing the Coding Track may take the CCA or CPC credentialing exams. Program graduates holding a coding credential may be employed in healthcare settings such as clinics, insurance companies, government agencies, public health, home health agencies, long-term care facilities, hospitals, and dental offices.

NOTE: Many of the courses in this program are delivered in an online format. This learning strategy helps to prepare students to be successful working independently in today’s high-tech medical office.

Program Learning Outcomes

At the end of this program students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate the use of electronic health records records to manage the health record, schedule patient appointments, and produce medical forms for patients.
  • Apply knowledge of structure, function, disease processes, and treatment in the human body.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking skills, ethical behavior, and professional conduct.
  • Apply knowledge of healthcare statistics and data quality management.
  • Perform insurance and financial procedures following current regulations for the medical office in the electronic billing system.
  • Apply diagnosis and procedural codes to medical documentation in compliance with official coding guidelines.
