The Computer Science Transfer Pathway AS offers students a powerful option: the opportunity to complete an Associate of Science degree with course credits that directly transfer to designated Computer Science bachelor’s degree programs at Minnesota State universities. The curriculum has been specifically designed so that students completing this pathway degree and transferring to one of the seven Minnesota State universities enter the university with junior-year status. All courses in the Transfer Pathway associate degree will directly transfer and apply to the designated bachelor’s degree programs in a related field.

Minnesota State universities include:  Bemidji State University; Metropolitan State University; Minnesota State University, Mankato; Minnesota State University Moorhead; Southwest Minnesota State University; St. Cloud State University; and Winona State University.

Select 11 credits from the following. Selection should be made in consultation with a counselor/advisor or CSCI faculty member to ensure appropriateness to student’s academic goals.

Students should choose goal area courses based on the transfer university destination requirements.  Students should consult with their advisor/counselor before selecting courses for satisfying the goal areas.

Goal 1: Communication

Goal 2: Critical Thinking

Fulfilled when all MnTC goals for this degree are complete.

Goal 3 and/or 4: Natural Sciences/Math/Logical Reasoning

Goal 5: History/Social/Behavioral Sciences

Minimum of 6 credits, two courses from two different disciplines.

Goal 6: Humanities/Fine Arts

Minimum of 6 credits. Two courses from two different disciplines.

Goals 7-10: Theme Goals

Three credits in Goal areas 7 or 8 and three credits in Goal areas 9 or 10 are required. Many courses from Goals 1-6 also meet Goals 7-10.  One course may fulfill a maximum of two Goals.  Credits count only once.

Program Learning Outcomes

At the end of this program students will be able to:

  • analyze a problem and craft an appropriate algorithmic solution.
  • apply structured principles and best practices to the task of implementing software solutions.
  • use hardware structure and resources to inform the construction of software.
  • use general operating system functions and capabilities.
  • effectively communicate both technical and non-technical aspects of their work in formal and informal situations.
  • apply formal or conceptual methods to the process of constructing solutions.
  • analyze the processes used to design a solution and employ established frameworks to evaluate the product.
  • apply the principles learned in the core curriculum to various application domains.
  • use contributions from other disciplines to determine the impact of software on society and human well-being.
