Program Description

The CJS Corrections Certificate is designed for Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement students and working professionals who have an interest in the field of corrections. This certificate program provides students with a comprehensive overview of the various federal, state, and county level correctional systems. Additionally, after completing this certificate program, students will have an in-depth understanding of the role of corrections as it relates to the overall criminal justice system.

Program Learning Outcomes

At the end of this program students will be able to:

  • Examine the interaction between police organizations, the courts, corrections, and the community in the administration of justice.
  • Analyze lifelong ethical and professional responsibilities of criminal justice personnel in the administration of justice.
  • Demonstrate effective decision making, critical thinking, and communication skills in written and verbal form.
  • Understand hiring practices, training evolutions, subcultures, attitudes and orientation of criminal justice professionals.
  • Have the requisite knowledge, skill and ability to transfer successfully into the 3rd year of baccalaureate degrees in criminal justice or related fields at other colleges and universities
