Program Description

In this program, students will study the management and maintenance of complex computing environments of companies utilizing Linux/UNIX network and operating system technologies. Additionally, students will prepare for the CompTIA Linux+ industry examination.

Program Prerequisites

Proficiency in the basic knowledge and skills related to configuring and maintaining a Linux Operating System environment OR Appropriate coursework OR Instructor consent.

Program Learning Outcomes

At the end of this program students will be able to:

  • Understand the concepts behind free software, run levels, daemons, the kernel, basic networking and devices.
  • Install the operating system and configure aspects of it.
  • Comprehend the file system structure and nature of inodes.
  • Create rescue media, monitor resources, and apply patches.
  • Demonstrate the layout of a Local Area Network and how to configure it with TCP/IP.
  • Implement basic security methods, such as creating shadow passwords, logging of events, and identifying commonly known trouble spots.
