TRIN 2023 - Advanced Skills of Interpreting Credits: 4 Hours/Week: Lecture None Lab None Course Description: This course focuses on refinement of simultaneous interpreting skills. It also reinforces other interpreting skills acquired in previous courses. This course presents increasingly complex and specialized scenarios, continues to explore the application of interpreter codes of ethics and standards of practice, and discusses theoretical frameworks of interpreting studies as a field of research. Learning Outcomes At the end of this course students will be able to:
- demonstrate skill progression in consecutive interpreting, note-taking, and sight translation.
- demonstrate skill progression in simultaneous skills in more complex scenarios.
- prepare for specialized interpreting assignments.
- justify responses to ethical conflicts with grounded, professional rationales that appeal to the code of ethics, standards of practice, and the role of the interpreter.
