Program Description
The 3D Modeling and Animation Diploma prepares students for 3D content development careers throughout a variety of industries including Game Development, Film and Visual Effects, Forensic and Medical Animation, and many others. This program provides the comprehensive skills of 3D animation, modeling, texturing, visual effects, concept art, and character rigging that can be can be used in a variety of applications. Emphasis is on providing the valuable technical, conceptual, and design skills necessary for those wishing to obtain a position as a 3D artist.
This program is part of the Visual Communications Careers area and is designed to provide you with the skills you need to enter a career upon completion. Although the Diploma is not designed for transfer to a four-year school, your general education course typically will transfer. Some of your career-oriented courses may also transfer to specific majors at certain schools through the petition process.

This program is intended primarily for employment preparation rather than transfer to a four-year institution. Some courses may not transfer to a number of four-year colleges. If you are considering the possibility of transfer, you may wish to talk with your advisor, counselor, or program instructor before registering to discuss your goals, look at programs designed for transfer, and develop a plan. Articulation agreements exist with Bemidji State University, Metropolitan State University, and Minnesota State University - Moorhead.
Program Learning Outcomes
At the end of this program students will be able to:
- Demonstrate 3D Animation and Modeling skills that meet entry level industry standards.
- Demonstrate proficiency with technology related to the area of 3D Animation.
- Prepare and demonstrate a portfolio of work for the annual 3D Program Portfolio Show.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the 3D development pipeline.
- Generate strong digital artwork reflective of entry level industry standards.
- Generate and communicate solutions for business and industry needs.
