Program Description

In this program, students study basic and advanced concepts of configuring, managing, and securing a Linux operating system. Students learn the processes of complex computing environments of companies utilizing Linux/UNIX network and operating system technologies. Additionally, the courses help students prepare for professional certifications. This certificate is designed for students with experience in the industry seeking career advancement.

This advanced certificate requires proficiency in the knowledge and skills related to the fundamentals of computer hardware and software installation and configuration or professional certification.

Program Learning Outcomes

At the end of this program students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate, conceptual, and procedural knowledge related to the administration, installation, configuration, and maintenance of Linux operating systems.
  • Comprehend the file system structure and navigation methods.
  • Demonstrate the skills and knowledge necessary to apply critical thinking, troubleshooting and scripting skills.
  • Implement basic security methods, such as creating shadow passwords, logging of events, and identifying commonly known trouble spots.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge of a Local Area Network layout and configuration methods.
