Program Description
The Theater Transfer Pathway AFA degree offers students a powerful option: the opportunity to complete an Associate of Fine Arts degree with course credits that directly transfer to designated Theatre bachelor’s degree programs at Minnesota State universities. The curriculum has been specifically designed so that students completing this pathway degree and transferring to one of the seven Minnesota State universities enter the university with junior-year status. All courses in the Transfer Pathway associate degree will directly transfer and apply to the designated bachelor’s degree programs in a related field.
Minnesota State universities include: Bemidji State University; Metropolitan State University; Minnesota State University, Mankato; Minnesota State University Moorhead; Southwest Minnesota State University; St. Cloud State University; and Winona State University.

Special Instructions
Students planning to transfer to a university outside of the Minnesota State system are advised to consult with their intended transfer institution as early as possible to determine transferability of the courses in this Transfer Pathway degree.
Prospective AFA Theatre students are advised to consult with the Theatre Arts Faculty before beginning the AFA in Theatre Transfer Pathway Degree program.

Major Elective Requirements
Select 0-4 credits from the following or additional MnTC credits to reach required 60 credit total.
MnTC/General Education Requirements
Goal 2: Critical Thinking
Fulfilled when all MnTC goals for this degree are complete.
Goal 3: Natural Sciences
Minimum of 7 credits. Two courses from two different disciplines with at least one traditional lab course.
Goal 5: History/Social/Behavioral Sciences
Minimum of 9 credits. Three courses from three different disciplines.
Goal 6: Humanities/Fine Arts
Minimum of 19 credits. Three courses, at least ONE of which must be a literature course, from three different disciplines.
Goals 7-10: Theme Goals
Three credits in each of four Goal areas selected from Goals 7, 8, 9 and 10 are required. Many courses from Goals 1-6 also meet Goals 7-10. One course may fulfill a maximum of two Goals. Credits count only once.

Program Learning Outcomes
At the end of this program students will be able to:
- articulate and make informed comments which demonstrate an understanding of the theatre genre’s history, evolution, and relation to society.
- identify and apply, in a practical manner, the communicative and artistic collaboration process vital to the creation and presentation of a performance piece.
- identify and implement costume, set, sound, and stage lighting equipment with the associated knowledge of safety and design optics.
- communicate and implement, in a theoretical and practical form, an informed and well-rounded understanding of the multiple elements needed to be incorporated into a theatrical performance.
