Program Description
Nail Care Technician certificate includes instruction in theory and practical application techniques of cleansing, shaping, polishing, massage of hands and feet, and also the application of artificial nails. Completion of this certificate meets the 350-hour requirements to take the state written exam and certification of skills as required by Minnesota cosmetology laws and rules for licensure.
Program Prerequisites
Course placement into ENGL 0950 and RDNG 0950 or above OR completion of RDNG 0940 with a grade of C or higher OR course placement into ESOL 0051 and ESOL 0052 and ESOL 1033 OR completion of ESOL 0041 with a grade of C or higher and ESOL 0042 with a grade of C or higher and ESOL 0043 with a grade of C or higher.
Special Instructions
Students are encouraged to start the Cosmetology program full-time in the fall, but can begin with the Nail Certificate in the spring semester. Please refer to Nail Tech certificate program guide for review.

Program Learning Outcomes
At the end of this program students will be able to:
- Demonstrate academic and skill proficiency at an entry level nail technician and acquire sufficient amounts of knowledge to pass the state practical and written exams.
- Demonstrate proficiency and skill in nail care including the care of hands and feet and the application of artificial nail enhancements.
- Demonstrate effective and appropriate communication with clients.
- Demonstrate proper safety and sanitation, as well as safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous waste as governed by Minnesota law and rules
