General Requirements for Degrees, Diplomas, and Certificates

Program Note

Grade of C or higher in all Career/Occupational courses is required.
Grade of C or higher in all specifically designated General Education/MnTC courses is required.
Students may take both HSER 2780  and HSER 2781  in the same term yet for many students it may be beneficial to complete their internships in two semesters.

Transfer, Articulation Agreements, and Partnerships

This degree program is designed for both employment preparation and transfer. Some of the courses may not transfer to a number of four-year colleges. If you are considering the possibility of transfer, you may wish to talk with your advisor, counselor, or program instructor before registering to discuss your goals, look at programs designed for transfer, and develop a plan. Through an articulation agreement, Metropolitan State University accepts the degree towards their Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services.

Program Learning Outcomes

At the end of this program students will be able to:

• Demonstrate an understanding of the interdependence of cultures and communities and skills and values needed to effectively live and work in a diverse global society.
• Demonstrate strategies for evaluating personal skills, styles and values in the group process to use group work with special populations.
• Demonstrate skills such as case management, record keeping, intake procedures, assessment models, and methods, interviewing skills and techniques specific to case management care plans and development, multicultural sensitivity, and population diversity.
• Demonstrate helper interventions with a focus on client empowerment and advocacy applied through a skills approach.
• Identify the impact of disability on clients, their families, and the community.
